The following study has the main goal of analyzing the comprehension of restrictive relative clauses in children with cochlear implant, considering the insertion of the subordinate clause and syntactic function of the relative pronoun. The experimental group consists of 11 children with profound, pre-lingual, sensorineural hearing loss with cochlear implant, The control group consist of 40 children with typical language development. All children are native speakers of European Portuguese and attend elementary school. In order to analyze the comprehension of relative clauses, a data collection tool was designed, based on other tool built by several researchers, who have studied these sentences. The results show a difference in the performance between the two groups of children, with better outcomes for children with typical language development. The center inserted relative clauses proved more difficult to comprehend than right inserted relative clauses, for both groups. Children with typical language development performed better al comprehending relative clauses when the relative pronoun works as a subject than when it works as an object.
