There is a discussion on the potential of mobile augmented reality (AR) technologies to enhance learning. This paper presents the EduPARK project’s first cycle of design-based research to develop a mobile AR game application (app) that aims to promote interdisciplinary learning in an urban green park. An app prototype was developed, which was evaluated by students (9/10 years-old and 13-14 years-old) after using it in loco. The focus is the students’ perceptions regarding the app, in what concerns its usability, acceptance and improvement; as well as students’ performance while using the app. Data collection involved a questionnaire, six focus groups, and information of app’s usage. Data were submitted to descriptive statistics, computing of the System Usability Scale (SUS) score and content analysis. Results revealed an excellent usability of the EduPARK app, with an average SUS of 85.6. Overall, students reported that the app was enjoyable, easy to use and promoted learning, having suggested a set of relevant improvements for further versions. Additionally, they had a good performance using the app, indicating that the app can effectively support learning; however, more evaluation experiences are needed to better understand mobile AR game learning in urban green parks.
