Abstract
After introducing what are wireless communications systems likely to be in the future, i.e. the so-called 4th Generation, an overview will be given of the hottest research topics in the field for upcoming years, namely Cognitive Radio, Self-Organizing Networks, and Telemedicine. At last, one will point out the beneficial interaction of wireless communication with Mathematics, as an example of CTIF/AAU approach towards interdisciplinarity.
