Talk: Introduction to fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic

SoftComputing as an engineering science emphasizes the need for intuitive and interpretable models, which are tolerant to imprecision and uncertainty. The powerful mathematical base for that is the theory of fuzzy sets and logic. This theory provides an elegant and simple way to make an inference using vague and/or missing information. This talk will introduce the basics of the fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic. The attention is also focused on the modern tendencies of development and implementations of this theory. Several specific tasks and applications in the area of data mining, artificial intelligence and process modeling will be considered.
